Roles of Industrial Advisors, Faculty Advisors (and all faculty), Instructor.

Design Consideration table (required for Plan document) and Key Characteristics and Criteria (also required in the plan).

Budget issues and fundraising process

Project planning including brain storming, establishing a schedule and budget, prototyping, sketching, engineering standards.

Sept 6

Prototyping and scope of capstone project. Super-Group meeting w/ faculty advisor – discuss project goals, concerns, key characteristics, milestones. Discuss next week’s deliverables.

Engineering Drawings including dimensioning, tolerancing, and GD&T

How to incorporate certain elements in your projects: engineering standards, drawing standards, patent search/literature search.

Due Dates of Project Deliverables: You WILL NOT BE REMINDED of these as they approach – students are expected to keep track of them themselves!

Submit the charter

Sep 20

Submit pre-plan memo . This includes results of your literature search and notes regarding your first meeting with the industrial advisor. Discuss what their role is planned to be and any guidance or suggestions they have already offered.

Sep 27

Submit Project Plan to faculty (faculty advisor and course instructor)

Oct 4

Project Plan sent to Industrial Advisor (after faculty approval or after 1 week)

Oct 25

Submit Prototype Demonstration memo to faculty and industrial advisor

Before Nov 8

Invite Industrial Advisor (cc instructor on the email) to final oral presentation - they are not expected to attend, but are certainly welcome.

Before Nov 22

Provide Industrial Advisors with soft copy (cc instructor) of the Industrial Advisor feedback form (available from the instructor – posted on Basecamp possibly).

Nov 22
Submit the Status Report memo

Dec 6

Formal oral reports to class (hardcopy 6 slides per page to instructor and advisors)

Weekly email updates due by noon each Monday.

 Provide hardcopies to the course instructor and faculty advisor (unless they have requested only softcopies) for all submitted work . Electronic copies should be placed in Basecamp.
